CARICAD’s October issue focuses on succession planning in the Caribbean public sector. Its cover story argues that retirement and staff departures can leave agencies without the expertise or leadership needed to keep services and major projects running. It urges agencies to identify critical roles early and develop a pool of capable successors through mentoring, coaching, and practical assignments.
CARICAD’s five-step model calls for assessing current and future challenges, identifying key positions, assessing qualified and interested candidates, creating development opportunities, and reviewing the plan regularly.
The issue also covers:
- What Is Leadership? A practical reflection on what leaders do, the character and values they bring to the role, and how others experience their leadership style.
- Would You Die for Me? An exploration of how leaders earn trust and loyalty through service, adaptability, communication, and coaching.
- Accessibility and Inclusion in Saint Lucia. A report on Global Accessibility Awareness Day and the National Disabilities Registry, which is intended to improve data collection and help plan services for persons with disabilities.
