On January 15th this year, the government of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) officially launched its CARICAD-assisted Post Hurricane Recovery Plan publication. The document specifically refers to efforts at recovery after the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
In attendance were TCI Premier the Honourable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson, the Honourable Vaden Williams, Minister with responsibility for Disaster Management, Mr. Devon Rowe, Executive Director of CARICAD, Chairman of the Recovery Task Force, Mr. Wesley Clerveaux and members of the Recovery Task Force.
As part of his opening remarks Clerveaux stated that, “This exercise today is a culmination of extensive assessment and research which enabled the Government to develop a long-term plan for the full recovery of the Turks and Caicos Islands.”
In her remarks, Premier Cartwright-Robinson indicated that, “The damages could not compare though to the resilient spirit that emerged amongst all the peoples of the Islands. We saw unprecedented external and internal support that must be credited for our ability to get through the early recovery stage.”
